We were not being “careful” for a few years and never had any “scares” so this started making us think about the potential of not being able to get pregnant on our own, but I ended up having major abdominal surgery due to an autoimmune issue. My surgeon told me upon waking that she noticed a-lot of scar tissue and knew how bad we wanted to have children, so she advised us to speak with my OBGYN and start testing for infertility due to these structural issues.
We ended up tracking my cycles with ovulation tests and trying for multiple months with no success. So we made an appointment with my OB to discuss our concerns. All my blood work, Hysterosalpingogram, and ultrasounds looked normal. My cycles were normal and I was ovulating every month, so my OB wanted to test my husband, and my husband’s testing was completely normal. They ended up telling me that my issue is structural and my eggs cannot make it down my tubes due to misalignment and my changes of getting pregnant on my own were almost zero.
We did not qualify for IUI due to the structural abnormalities so we went straight into IVF. We had one egg retrieval and ended with 10 embryos! Our little girl was our first FET and is now a healthy 12 week old baby girl named Calleigh.

HOW DID YOUR BOSTON IVF PHYSICIAN AND NURSING TEAM HELP TO MAKE YOUR JOURNEY A SUCCESS?
Dr. Wright was who did my transfer and made me feel so comfortable.
WHAT WERE SOME HIGHS OR LOWS OF YOUR TREATMENT(S)? WHAT IS UNIQUE/DIFFERENT ABOUT YOUR STORY?
During my medication cycle, I ended up developing a uterine polyp which then made me not eligible for a fresh transfer so I had to have the polyp removed and wait a full period cycle to then start prepping for a frozen transfer. I felt really sad and upset about needing to wait 3-4 months before being able to transfer an embryo but it all worked out the way it needed to be and I’m thankful for Boston IVF for being so thorough and making sure I was the healthiest before transferring an embryo.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER STRUGGLING WITH INFERTILITY?
We did not hide our journey from friends and family. It was so relieving to share our journey and hear from so many people that they also did IVF or had IUI’s or needed meds to ovulate. It was so helpful to speak to others about our journey and feel the support from our friends and family. I encourage everyone who fights the battle of infertility to speak about it and don’t hide it because it was so helpful mentally to speak about the hardships and struggles.
