MD Q&A

Why Did You Become a Fertility Expert?
I first fell in love with fertility care as a medical student and it was a total shock to me.  Up to that point, I had been planning to go into rural Family Medicine or OBGYN and happened to stumble into an opportunity for a rotation in a fertility clinic.   I immediately was drawn to the complexities of reproductive medicine and the ability to modulate hormonal systems as part of fertility treatments.  I loved the level of continuity of care in this field and enjoyed working as part of a team with Embryology, Andrology, highly specialized RNs, Reproductive Urologists, and sonographers.

What is Your Favorite Part of Working as a Fertility Specialist?
One of my favorite things about my job is how well I get to know my patients and how close of a relationship we have.  Probably my favorite visits are first-time meetings when I have the opportunity to hear the patient's story, gain their trust, and establish a relationship.  It is incredibly rewarding to guide my patients through the rollercoaster that is infertility and fertility treatment and be there to celebrate their successes on the other side.

Who is Your Inspiration?
When I think about the physicians and health care providers who inspired me to pursue a career in medicine, they all are warm and approachable, gave their patients their full attention, and had the ability to see the big picture.  I have always tried to emulate these providers when caring for my patients and impart how important these attributes are when working with medical students, residents, and fellows.

What is Your Approach to Patient Care?
Very simple - listen to the patient, they will always tell you what they need to be successful and feel supported.

What Are Some of Your Most Proud Career Accomplishments?
My most proud moments are when my patients are successful.  I'll never forget the very first couple I helped conceive and how honored I felt that they trusted me to help them build their family.

What About Boston IVF Makes You Proud?
My first experience with Boston IVF was when I was an OBGYN resident at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and we had a rotation in the BIVF NH center.  I was so impressed with how skilled and kind every member of the team was and how well the patients were cared for.   I feel so lucky to get to 'come home' and be part of the BIVF team in NH full time.

How Do You Spend Your Free Time?
Hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, live music

What Music Do You Enjoy Listening to?
Country/Bluegrass
