Home Treatments GYN Surgery

For some fertility cases, reproductive surgery is required for patients to achieve their optimal fertility success.

At Boston IVF, our goal is to provide you with the least invasive procedure possible. Technological advancements enable our physicians to perform delicate, specialized surgery in a minimally invasive manner, with most procedures lasting less than an hour.

WHY GYN SURGERY?

Depending on the presence of other factors, GYN surgery is often the best treatment option for factors and conditions that prevent pregnancy.

Such conditions include:

  • Endometriosis
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Pelvic and/or intrauterine adhesions
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Endometrial polyps
  • Fallopian tube disease and obstruction
  • Congenital anomalies of the pelvic organs, such as a uterine or vaginal septum

OUR IN-HOUSE SURGERY CENTER

Although the concept of reproductive surgery as a fertility treatment may seem daunting,  the physicians at Boston IVF regularly treat fertility issues effectively through non-invasive surgical procedures performed each day at The Surgery Center of Waltham.

Located right inside our Waltham fertility clinic, patients will experience a warm welcome and cutting edge treatment.

Technological advancements enable our physicians to perform delicate, specialized surgery in a minimally invasive manner, with most procedures lasting less than an hour.

LAPAROSCOPY

Laparoscopy is an effective way to diagnose or treat anatomical infertility problems.

Performed at Boston IVF - The Waltham Center, Laparoscopy is minimally invasive surgical procedure that requires general anesthesia to ensure patient comfort.

In a laparoscopic procedure, a tube containing a video camera (laparoscope) is inserted through a small abdominal incision (5-12mm) that allows our fertility doctors to access images of the abdominal and pelvic organs without a need for major surgery.

It is used to treat:

  • endometriosis
  • ovarian cysts
  • fibroids
  • ectopic pregnancy
  • blocked or damaged Fallopian tubes
  • correction of scar tissue

HYSTEROSCOPY

Hysteroscopy is another minimally invasive surgical procedure that requires no incisions. Like laparoscopy, a hysteroscopy is performed at Boston IVF's The Surgery Center of Waltham. Most women are able to resume normal activities immediately following a hysteroscopy.

A hysteroscopy uses a small tube (hysteroscope) to examine the cervical canal and the inside of the uterus.

Hysteroscopy is used to treat:

  • fibroids
  • endometrial polyps
  • uterine abnormalities such as scar tissue
  • abnormally heavy uterine bleeding
  • repair of uterine septum

PARACENTESIS

For patients with moderate to severe Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome, Paracentesis is a surgical procedure that can offer relief by removing free fluid from the abdominal cavity.

At times, when Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome is moderate to severe, removing some free fluid from the abdominal cavity gives relief to a woman experiencing painful symptoms.

Paracentesis is done using ultrasound guidance for pinpoint accuracy and to monitor the process of the fluid removal.
