Indeed, if we know that you are not pregnant, any bleeding is most likely Day 1 of your period. Call your care team to report Day 1 and receive your instructions. If your bleeding seems unusual (excessive bleeding, bleeding and uncharacteristic pain, or something just seems ‘off’) you can also give your care team a call to figure out what might be going on.
If you begin bleeding and are not expecting your period, call your care team. Some of the post-treatment medications that you take can have side effects that include vaginal bleeding – this does not exclude pregnancy.
If you have not yet had a negative pregnancy test but are within your two-week wait, it’s possible that you’re starting your period. We always do a blood pregnancy test after a treatment cycle so don’t cancel your appointment – a negative HCG test is required to begin a new cycle.
If you already have had a positive pregnancy test, know that some spotting can be normal during the first trimester, but heavy or painful bleeding should be urgently checked out. Give your care team a call if you have any unexpected bleeding after a positive pregnancy test so that we can help.
