Relaxation strategies, stress management skills, and support

Our five psychologists provide individual or couples mind/body therapy, as well as structured group mind/body programs focused on issues surrounding infertility.

Through these programs, you will learn:

  • Numerous relaxation strategies, stress management skills, and get support from others who "get it."
  • How to change lifestyle habits which can have a negative impact on fertility.
  • The safety and efficacy of different alternative medicine approaches
  • Cognitive restructuring, which involves identifying and reframing recurrent negative thought patterns, so that what starts as "I will never have a baby," may end up as "I am doing everything I can to try to get pregnant."
  • Self-nurturing skills ranging from, "101 excuses to avoid baby showers" to how to restructure your daily life to add as much joy as you can.

The Mind/Body Program for Infertility is a10-session group treatment program that meets on weekday evenings. This program has been in existence since 1987 and was founded by Alice Domar, Ph.D. Participants report significant decreases in physical symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and gastrointestinal distress, psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and irritability, as well as a 50% conception rate.
