Clinical Trials

ImageSince 1986 when we first opened, Boston IVF has conducted ground-breaking research that has contributed to vast improvements in assisted reproductive technologies and fertility treatment. Patients at Boston IVF benefit from working with the experts who conducted these studies; when appropriate, patients are invited to participate in research studies as well. Below are brief descriptions of  current or expired trials conducted by Boston IVF. The ISIS and FORTT trials were done in affiliation with Harvard Medical School, Dartmouth College and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and werefunded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the primary agency for conducting medical research.

ISIS STUDY: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the link between lifestyle and fertility. This study is currently recruiting women age 20-34 and their male partners who are planning their first pregnancy. Click here for more information on this trial. Additionally, Boston IVF initiates new research projects on a regular basis. If you are interested in enrolling in a study or learning more about our research, please speak with your Boston IVF physician or our Study Coordinator, Kristin B.

FORTT (Forty and Over Infertility Treatment) TRIAL: Now completed. This study will help determine the best treatment for infertile women between the ages of 38 and 42.

FASTT TRIAL: Now completed. The FASTT trial was the largest-ever funded trial by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the field of infertility. The purpose of this randomized prospective clinical trial was to determine whether an infertility treatment that moves quickly to In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is more cost effective than the usual treatment strategy which includes various combinations of infertility drugs and intrauterine insemination (IUI) prior to utilizing In Vitro Fertilization.

PGS STUDY:  Boston IVF is currently recruiting healthy women undergoing In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) between the ages of 35 to 42 years to participate in a randomized study. If you qualify and enroll, you will receive discounted IVF medications. If you become pregnant during the study, you will receive a small payment for providing information about your pregnancy and birth. If you are assigned to the TEST arm of the study, you will receive free PGS. If you meet the criteria below, you may be a candidate for this study. To participate in the study you must:

  • Be a healthy, pre-menopausal female, 35-42 years of age
  • Have a history of less than 3 consecutive miscarriages and no more than one failed IVF cycle
  • Agree to use Ferring Pharmaceutical products during stimulation
  • Agree to be randomly assigned to either the arm of the study receiving PGS (test arm) or the arm receiving no additional testing (CONTROL arm) Click here for more information on this study.

STRESS STUDY: We are now enrolling participants for a research study investigating the impact of relaxation and stress management strategies with IVF patients. Participants in this study may be provided a packet with written stress management tips and a relaxation CD. Eligible participants are women ages 18-44 years, who are about to begin their first IVF cycle.
